Why do ear tips matter?

We’ve all been there...

...you’ve finally received your Wavells, you can’t wait to pop them in your ears, and you’ve most likely picked out a song —but before you get that far, it might be worth taking a quick look at the 7 pairs of included ear tips and choosing the perfect pair. Because there really is a difference.

The green ones

With the green ear tips, the bass is best described as supportive. It’s there when it needs to be—not too deep, and not with a big thump—but as a smooth, warm addition to the midrange and treble. Higher notes take center stage on the Wavell ONE and Black Edition. Here, the green ear tips contribute to the clear sound and give the treble more room to shine.

Pros

The sound has a more rounded quality, creating a sense of being enveloped at a comfortable distance.

Cons

The bass isn’t as powerful as it is with the red ear tips. If you’re into heavy hip-hop/rap or EDM, we recommend the red ones.

The red ones

With the red ear tips, the highest and harshest tones are reduced slightly, and the lower midrange and bass have more presence. The bass is delivered more directly, contributing to a resonant sensation in the ear.

Pros

The sound is delivered more directly, giving your music more power. We recommend the red ear tips if you often use your Wavells while working out and listen to music with plenty of punch.

Cons

The upper mids and highs can get a bit loud. In podcasts, vlogs, or when playing music at high volumes, voices can sound a bit strained and occasionally reach harsh levels. It might be a good idea to turn down the volume or switch to the green ear tips if you listen to podcasts a lot.
